Violin: These
two unusually shaped violins were made and patented by Albert
Grosjean, ca. 1920. The
violin on the left, with an augmented tone chamber, was played by
accomplished violinists and rated, “not satisfactory.”
The star violin on the right, which they found
“interesting,” has strings that vibrate sympathetically with the
bow’s strings. What
other stringed instruments are shaped like a violin and why?
