Stewart Brice: This
beautiful painting by the famous American artist, John Singer
Sargent, is an excellent example of the artist’s portraiture style
of American and British gentry.
Calvin Brice, a Lima, Ohio native, was a railroad magnate and
U.S. senator from 1891 to 1897.
A patron of the arts and education, Brice Hall at Miami
University was named in his honor.
This portrait was completed in 1898 just prior to Brice’s
death. |
